Hockey is an intense game. But you can’t totally lose your mind like Derek Campbell did. He plays with the Hull Stingrays of the Elite Ice Hockey League in the UK. Saturday night he was playing against The Dundee Stars. He took a pretty bad hit from behind. He was okay thankfully, but loses his mind. A fight ensues. Then he’s escorted off the ice. But he’s not done fighting. Oh no, he gets into a fight in the stands that has to be broken up. See it all below.
Needless to say he’s going to be suspended for a bit. Here’s how the breakdown of his suspension was handed down.
Fighting off the ice = 15 matches
Attempted eye gouge = 12 matches
Knee to the head = 10 matches
Excessive force to the head resulting in an impact to the ice = 10 matches
Total = 47 games!
It doesn’t actually matter how many games he got because he was released from the team before the suspension was handing out. The team said that what he did on the ice was a reacting to the hit, but they can’t condone the fighting in the stands.
Yeah the fighting in the stands was wrong but the eye gouging is okay? Crazy.
