Here’s a feel good story for the holidays, but it didn’t start out that way…get that Kleenex ready!
James Gray is a retired Irish butler, 85 years old, and for the past 10 years he’s spent Christmas alone. He got fed up this year and decided to change that. He placed a want ad in the Irish post newspaper for someone to spend Christmas with him – but only one person responded. Then they backed out. But people heard about his story and started to write. He now has 300 Christmas cards – not bad for a guy who didn’t get one birthday card this year. Strangers from all over are coming to spend Christmas with him. And deliveries from Uruguay, Hawaii, and Australia are on the way. I love this – it’s easy to get caught up in the holidays and your own friends and family, but sometimes you have to remember the lonely ones too.
James Gray doesn’t have Twitter, but you can tweet the Irish post [@Niall_IrishPost] a message for him and they’ve promised to print it out for him to read. It’s funny – after reading his first 10 cards, he said “I wish I could have all these people in my flat for a party.” Just tell us when and where.
