…But there’s no need to panic. YET.
Hawaii’s Mauna Loa – the largest volcano on Earth – is showing signs of awakening from its 30-year slumber.
Here’s what it looks like when it’s dormant – beautiful, peaceful, a great sight to take your family to see while on vacation:
Pretty, eh? I’d pay it a visit.
…and this is what it looks like when it ERUPTS into a hellish firepit of molten magma:
Looks like something out of Apocalypse Now.
Thanks to new and improved technology since the volcano’s last eruption in 1984, scientists have detected 4 clusters of earthquakes since March 2013.
Will it erupt? And when? And how?! Only time will tell… **insert dramatic music here**
Hopefully the new technology will warn us of a potential eruption well before it happens. You can read the scientific stuff behind the volcano’s recent activity HERE.
