September 18th, 1970 we lost Jimi Hendrix.
He was pronounced dead at St. Mary Abbot’s hospital in London, UK as 27 years old after choking on his own vomit. Some claim he committed suicide, while other conspiracy theories that surround his death point to Jimi’s manager arranging for his murder.
Outkast frontman Andre 3000 almost dropped out of an upcoming biotopic based on Jimi Hendrix, saying playing Jimi in the film was so difficult, it was like “walking backwards.” After he was told he would need to learn how to play the guitar left-handed for the role.
“I didn’t know if I could pull it off. At one point during the meeting, I was not going to do it. I was going to say, ‘The movie’s not gonna work because I don’t want to f*ck Hendrix up and make him look terrible…It was very hard – it’s almost the same as walking backwards. The crazy part was when we first approached the film. We thought we were going to be able to shoot it right-handed, so I could have full confidence and full movement of knowing how to do it. We were going to try to flip the image.”
Jimi: All Is By My Side has an October 24th release date in the UK.
