It’s a Saturday night tradition between the 1st and 2nd period. The nation tunes in to see Coach’s Corner. Don Cherry is an icon in hockey and in our nation. The often outspoken host has cause a fair bit of controversy over the years.
When Rogers put forth their new big deal to acquire all the rights to NHL hockey many wondered what would happen to Grapes & Ron McLean. We did get Coach’s Corner, but a shorter version. It was cut from 8 minutes to 5 minutes. As we know Cherry had a hard time getting everything he wanted in the 8 minute segment so 5 minutes is that much tighter.
Saturday night we really saw his frustration and he complained numerous times about not having enough time. If you missed Coach’s Corner Saturday you can see it below:
This morning Cherry appeared on a sports talk radio show to speak about his frustrations and he blamed it on having too much coffee that sets him off the rails a bit. Overall he doesn’t seem too happy and even said “I don’t know what’s going to happen this week,” Cherry told the radio hosts. “But who knows? I say what I think and it gets you in trouble sometimes.” “Maybe I’ll need the job by next Monday,” Cherry said, with a chuckle.
