There’s nothing more fun for a kid in the wintertime than building a snow fort with your best bud.
The fun quickly turned to horror in the case of two cousins from New York State.
Jason Rivera, 9, and Elijah Martinez, 11, were playing in the snow when a plow pushed several feet of snow on top of them, burying them alive.
After several hours, their worried families began to search.
The boys heard their loved ones calling, but couldn’t yell loud enough to be heard through the snow.
Jason and Elijah were buried for up to eight hours; police believe an air pocket in the snow bank saved the boys from suffocating.
The boys may not have been found in time were it not for one officer following his gut instinct.
