Oof. I love my Leafs, but this video of Jonathan Bernier is enough to make me cringe.
Friday was the one-year anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s passing, and the Toronto Raptors held a charity celebration in honour of the late anti-apartheid leader. Leafs goalie Bernier was in attendance and, as an NHL celebrity, was asked by a reporter what he knew of Mandela when he was growing up. Bernier’s answer? Facepalm.
This reminds me of Jimmy Kimmel’s fake bands bit, when he gets hipsters to gush about bands that don’t really exist.
Bernier: “…he’s one of the most known athletes in the world.” And that’s just the beginning. Watch below:
