You gotta love baseball fans and their passion!!!
Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and a well-known businessman Stephen Bronfman are going to bat for their city. Together, they wrote a letter addressed to all thirty MLB teams to sell their city as a great location for a future major league team.
Yesterday, Mayor Coderre mentioned he sent the few weeks ago in an interview with The Canadian Press, just as baseball playoffs were starting.
He’s already met with Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred in New York City.
In that letter, the two suggested the most likely location for this new team; the Peel Basin, south of downtown Montreal. Bronfman stepped up to the plate confirmed he would play a leading role as an investor.
Background from Sportsnet:
Bronfman is a former Montreal Expos shareholder who sued the league and Jeffrey Loria in 2002, following the sale of the Expos to MLB.
Coderre described it as a letter from two men who love baseball and Montreal.
All teams were contacted, including the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics, both looking for new stadiums in which to play.
