Weezer keeps surprising us with new songs complete with bizarre lyrics and images to go along with the music.
First, it was the song Thank God for Girls with lyrics that continuously lead back to Cannoli, and the man in the video stuffing his face with that Cannoli.
The girl in the pastry shop with a net in her hair / is making a cannoli for you to take on your hiking trip
God took a rib from Adam / Ground it up / In the centerfuge machine / Mixed it up with cardamom and cloves / Microwaved it on the popcorn setting.
“Do You Wanna Get High?” sounds like it’s a really yucky and intentionally uncomfortable portrayal of the addict’s life. There’s nothing sexy, fun or funny about it, and it’s cruising along doing its thing, when Whoa Hey what is this sweet little bridge thing? Suddenly the song is sunny and sweet and in my mind, creatively this is when the high kicks in – suddenly everything is lovely and dreamy (and not the gritty reality of the rest of the song).
I just wish they came up with Do You Wanna Get High? before Thank God For Girls, a song that clearly makes every marijuana enthusiast fall into a deep daydream about munchies. Get high, then Cannoli. It only makes sense.
