If you were watching Sweden vs Switzerland in the IIHF World Juniors yesterday you may have seen a hit that took Leafs prospect out and sent to hospital to ensure he’s okay. William Nylander of Sweden was crushed in open ice by Switzerland’s Chris Elgi.
Now any hit to the head in IIHF is an automatic penalty with it being looked into after the game. I’m of the mindset that it was a clean hit that was unfortunate for how it ended up. Elgi was given a three game suspension for the hit.
It has a very similar look to Scott Stevens vs Paul Kariya years ago, except Elgi didn’t lift for the hit.
