10% of Canadians at Risk for Water Contamination
The governor of Michigan declared a state of emergency for the city of FLINT, as their people struggle with a water crisis caused by contamination from lead pipes.
According to new research from the Canadian Water Network, roughly 10 per cent of Canadians are at risk of being exposed to lead in our drinking water, with about 60,000 homes that still use lead service lines to connect to a local water supply in major cities across the country.
This puts adults at higher risk for cancer, stroke, kidney disease, memory problems and high blood pressure while kids are at even more risk and for several other problems.
Several FM96 bands have stepped up to the cause. Pearl Jam donated $300,000 to the city of Flint and set up a crowdrise donation page.
City and Colour just played the Ann Arbor Folk Festival and let fans know that all merch sales would be donated to Third Man Records’ efforts to support the Flint Water Fund through United Way.
The Canadian Cancer Society challenges you to go sober for a month, a new campaign to raise money while highlighting cancer risks associated with alcohol.
Last year, more than 10,000 Canadians died from alcohol-related cancers.
