Jian Ghomeshi Trial Update
As of 1:30 this afternoon, we’re hearing Jian Ghomeshi’s defence team has told the court they are ready to present closing arguments, hinting he may not testify at his trial in Toronto on sex assault and choking charges after every witness has been torn apart word by word through every email and text sent to him.
10-15 cm of Snow Coming
Messy roads ahead, we’ve got a snow squall watch in effect for London and surrounding areas. This starts later today into the night and tomorrow morning, we’re looking at 10-15 cm of snow.
London Roads’ Report Card…
London Police say drivers in our city were involved in more than 10,000 crashes last year and around that number in the few years before that. There was actually a 15% increase in tickets from 2014 to 2015! Keep in mind, the fines for distracted driving have even gone up, with no decline in those numbers. It’s now $490 bucks and three demerit points vs. $280 dollars before.
The most crash-prone intersection in the city is Wellington Road South a Exeter road according to a list released last year, with 91 crashes.
Leafs Captain Gone
Next time the Battle of Ontario hits the ice, former Leafs Captain Dion Phaneuf will be playing for the Senators after a 9 player deal was made earlier today. The Leafs get defenceman Jared Cowen, forwards Milan Miholuk, Colin Greening and Tobias Lindberg, and a 2017 second-round draft pick.
And get this, Phanuef is the first Leafs captain to be traded since Doug Gilmour was sent to New Jersey in 1997, almost 20 years!
He’ll join former London Knight Ryan Rupert in Ottawa, who was drafted by the Leafs in the 6th round back in 2012. Paul Hendrick from Leafs TV will join us before 5 to talk about the trades.
Can’t help but laugh at this one from Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Superlatives in 2014:
We’re sending our freeloaders with the FM96 app a secret Toronto Maple Leafs password daily! – I’m going to be asking for that password in the next hour! Listen live >> http://player.fm96.com
