The title might be a bit of a stretch since it was something that started last year with Kingsmen and then Mad Max : Road Fury followed suit. A rated R film that not only does well at the box office, but brought in a lot of money. Something that R rated movies don’t do often.
Deadpool has done something that will hopefully cause a shift in Hollywood to veer away from Saturday morning cartoon style super heroes to how the comics are typically done. Just look at the Daredevil or Jessica Jones series on Netflix, both are aimed at adults and have a very dark theme. Imagine an Avengers movie where instead of seeing just a tiny bit of blood on the heroes and them limping, they get to the breaking point and go too far. That’s the type of thing we could see more of, Rated R no longer stands for “If we go even on this film, that’s a win in our book.”. It’s slowly becoming a new way for writers, directors, actors and more to add to the story without having to compromise the integrity of it.
Just to prove a point, Deadpool has the biggest opening weekend in February history. The biggest opening day in February history, the biggest opening on a holiday/long weekend. It’s already become the Highest-grossing R-rated comic book superhero film (in 2 days) and is the biggest opening in a winter month.
