Burton Cummings was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, which he’s already a proud member of with The Guess Who, and Toronto-born The Weeknd walked away with five Junos including album of the year, and single of the year for Can’t Feel My Face. Death from Above 1979 grabbed Rock Album of the Year for The Physical World – Engineer Ryan Castle also graduated from OIART in London back in 1998.
The Allan Waters Humanitarian Award, which Rush was honoured with last year, went to The Arcade Fire for their humanitarian efforts donating $1 from every concert ticket to Partners In Health – a non-profit organization founded in Haiti looking to bring quality health care to the poorest areas in the world. That lead to further non-profit efforts from the band with two other organizations as well.
London Knights Advance to Round II of OHL Playoffs
The London Knights have moved on to the second round of the playoffs with a 5-2 win over Owen sound yesterday. Three of London’s four wins were road games.
Tomorrow, the Knights find out who they will play next round, we’re waiting to see who wins the Sarnia / Soo St. Marie series which has gone to a game 7. If Sarnia Wins, the Knights play the Sting. If Sault Ste. Marie wins, the Knights face the Kitchener Rangers. Tickets for round two did go on sale this morning at 10 a.m HERE.
Blue Jays 40th Season Begins With a Win
The Toronto Blue Jays started their 40th season with a win, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 5 to 3. Marcus Stroman made the start, pitching away the Jays longest opening day start since eight innings with Pat Hentgen in 1997.
