After 27 seasons and 595 episodes, this Sunday, one of our favourite animated television personalities will be going live for the first time. For the first time since episode one, December 17th, 1989, 27 years ago…
Towards the end of Sunday’s episode titled Simprovised (8pm on Global), Homer Simpson is going live!! For the last three minutes of the new episode, Homer will be doing a live Q & A. You can submit your questions through twitter using the hashtag #HomerLive, but you can also call in a question anywhere in North America at (888) 726-6660 between 8:00-8:30 pm ET/PT.
During this episode, Homer gives Improv and live comedy a try hoping to gain some confidence in public speaking because he butchered a speech at work – haven’t we all been there before?! Perhaps that’s one of Homer’s best traits, he’s one of the most lovable, relatable television characters of all time.
I also wanted to point out that according to episode 16, in season 4, titled Duffless, Homer turned 60 years old this week, so we’re celebrating his birthday this weekend! We got a quick peek at his birth certificate when he appears before a judge after being arrested for drunk driving on his way home from the Duff Brewery. It reads May 12th, 1956.
This sounds like the PERFECT excuse to look back at ten of the best FM96 rock n roll cameos through 27 seasons of one of television’s most beloved shows?
It’s not every day that an animated character is asked to join the Rolling Stones…and the show’s producers even let Otto Kill Spinal Tap in one episode…music has always played a role in The Simpsons.
#1 The Ramones 'Rosebud'
In the episode titled ‘Rosebud’ (October 1993), The Ramones sing Happy Birthday to Mr. Burns.
#2 Metallica 'The Mook, the Chef, the Wife and Her Homer'
In September 2006, we learned that Otto, the friendly rock and roll bus driver, was a HUGE Metallica fan. Too bad Bart stole his bus…
#3 Red Hot Chili Peppers 'Krusty Gets Kancelled'
Back in 1993, you’ll remember our favourite chain-smoking clown got his show cancelled. Bart and Lisa help him with a comeback special, featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers who sing ‘Give It Away’ in their undies – how about those ‘safer’ lyrics?
#4 The Smashing Pumpkins 'Homerpalooza'
It was May 1996, twenty years ago now…that the Smashing Pumpkins performed on the ‘Homerpalooza’ episode. This week in 1996 Homer tried to convince Bart & Lisa he is hip! Becoming a ‘freak’ alongside Sonic Youth, Peter Frampton, and Cypress Hill only brought Homey back home…
“I realized being with my family is more important than being cool” Awww!
#5 Cypress Hill 'Homerpalooza'
Also performers on the ‘Homerpalooza’ episode that aired twenty years ago this month, Cypress Hill ends up playing with the London Symphony Orchestra…they were hired ‘under the influence.’
#6 The Who 'A Tale of Two Springfields'
In Episode 250, ‘A Tale of Two Springfields,’ Homer tries to sabotage a concert in ‘Olde Springfield’ featuring The Who!
A chord from Won’t Get Fooled Again sends the wall between the two Springfields crashing down.
#7 Green Day 'The Simpsons' Movie
Green Day deserves a spot in this weekend’s Top 10 with their cameo in The Simpsons Movie– They even released their version of The Simpsons theme as a single!
#8 Aerosmith 'Flaming Moe's'
Moe’s Tavern is suddenly the place to be after Homer invents a HOT new drink, the Flaming Moe! The drink even attracts members of Aerosmith to become regulars. After a little persuasion via pickled eggs, they perform Walk This Way.
#9 The White Stripes 'Jazzy And The Pussycats'
The White Stripes appeared in the episode titled Jazzy and the Pussycats back in September 2006. Bart re-creates the famous ‘Hardest Button to Button’ music video and manages to piss Jack & Meg White off while he’s at it!
#10 Blink 182 'Barting Over'
Blink 182 will release California July 1st – their first album WITHOUT Tom DeLonge, featuring Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. They just dropped the first single Bored to Death.
Wondering about Tom DeLonge? Rolling Stone caught up with him and his latest project, Sekret Machines Book 1: Chasing Shadows – a 700 page novel he wrote with a professor that’s fictional with real information = from the aerospace industry and the Department of Defense.
In DeLonge’s office, the only sign of his previous life is a large framed drawing of Blink-182 on The Simpsons in 2003.
