I was crushed to leave the city during Rock the Park weekend, but I couldn’t miss the chance to see Axl, Slash and Duff on the same stage in Toronto for the first time in 20 years. Working for a radio station, I’m often lucky enough that I don’t have to buy tickets but this time I was up early on pre-sale day ready to get what I could afford!
That was hands down the BEST concert I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to MANY. Axl’s voice sounded perfect. Slash and Duff jammed like no time had passed. The crowd was amazing. I sang so loud my voice still hurts and my ears are still ringing and it’s Monday!!! Here’s a look at Guns N Roses live at Rogers Centre in Toronto July 16th, 2016 during the ‘Not in This Lifetime Tour.’ Their set-time was 9:25pm and waiting 15 ish minutes wasn’t so bad for Axl AT ALL!! Have a look at the set-list below.
Quite satisfied I got to see this solo live #GNfNR #NotInThisLifetimeTour A video posted by Sarah Burke (@burke_fm) on
Theme for 5 @ 5 today is FANCY FINGERS – inspired by Axl on the piano this weekend. During Civil War and November Rain the lighters were up in the air and you were swaying side to side holding your neighbor, whether you knew ’em or not!
Equally interesting…the guys had some troubles at the Canadian border, trying to get into the country for their only Canadian date! From Billboard:
The singer appropriately waited until the evening’s 18th song, “Out Ta Get Me,” before telling the amusing story. But it turns out that no one was out to get him or anyone else in GNR.
“You did what? What? ‘Oh, yeah, we found a gun.’
So we weren’t exactly arrested, we were detained,” Rose said, smiling, and emphasizing the word “detained.” He nodded to Slash, as he paced the stage, continuing his tale from the road.
“They were very nice. They were very nice,” he repeated of the customs officers. “They were very understanding. You know, it happens — you can forget you had a f—in’ gun,” he said sarcastically, laughing, then shrugging. “Wasn’t my gun.”
A Guns N’ Roses representative confirmed the story to Billboard. “Yes, this indeed happened on Friday, July 15, as they were crossing the border coming from the Philadelphia tour stop on the 14th.” The gun did not belong to any member of the band, according to the rep.
No word on how many times Guns N’ Roses had been detained at the Canadian border, but it seems to have started happening early in the band’s career. In a 1988 interview with Spin, Rose is quoted as saying, “This year, I was only arrested once at the Canadian border, for my stun gun. I didn’t know they’re illegal there.”
