Celebrating 50 Years of Star Trek
On September 8, 1966, exactly 50 years ago today, the very first episode of Star Trek aired on television.
FINALLY! Morgan Freeman Will Navigate You
I feel like we’ve been demanding this one for YEARS. Google’s free navigation app, Waze, has officially added Morgan Freeman’s sweet tones to the list.
Of course, Google isn’t just paying Freeman who-knows-what to create some joy in our drive-time lives. The voice feature is a marketing tie-in for Freeman’s upcoming film, London Has Fallen (the sequel toOlympus Has Fallen). Freeman plays the vice president in that movie, and he addresses you, the driver, as if you’re the president, which is a bit odd – sort of like non-sexy commuter roleplay with Morgan Freeman. Also, writing about this subject gives us a chance to revisit one of EW’s most popular videos of all time: Morgan Freeman on helium.
Canadian Country Music Week Begins TODAY!
London is hosting the biggest party to ever hit the Forest City – the biggest event that’s ever been ours, outside of sports…Canadian Country Music Week.
That’s a projected 10 million bucks for our economy over the next four days as Canada’s biggest country stars roll in for live performances and interviews with our sister station, Country 104. The awards show is Sunday night at Budweiser Gardens with host Jessi Cruikshank.
Here’s a look at some free events you can attend:
Things kick off at 8p.m. Thursday (tonight) at Covent Garden Market Square. The free, 19+ event will close Talbot Street between the crossroads of King Street and Dundas Street, and will launch the 40th anniversary celebration of Country Music Week.
Branded the Fanshawe College and Downtown London Stage at Budweiser Gardens, Thursday night’s line-up includes: Amy Nelson, James Barker Band, PETRIC, Meghan Patrick, JoJo Mason, Cold Creek County, Aaron Pritchett, and Tim Hicks.
Saturday is a free event at the Western Fair at the Metroland Media Agriplex from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A marque event as part of Country Music Week, Huron County FanFest features back-to-back performances by ten of Canada’s brightest country stars, and gives country music fans the opportunity to meet, greet and have their photo taken with their favourite acts at the Huron County FanFest photo wall. Country Music Week and artist merchandise will be available onsite for purchase.
Join Gord Bamford & Special Guests Kira Isabella, Jesse Mast, Jason Benoit, Chris Buck Band, Jojo Mason & Lindsay Ell
Freeman is the latest celebrity voice to be added to Google’s free navigation app, Waze. So now you can rely on Freeman’s dulcet tones to explain that you need to make a left turn in half a mile to get to Starbucks.
