Well, let’s start with the listener who’s boycotting FM96 during the ALCS between Cleveland and Toronto [Fair]:
It is with a heavy heart that I compose this email. My name is Rusty and I’m from Cleveland. Years ago, Completely by accident, I happened to stumble upon the most awesome radio station. You would think, that living in Cleveland, the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and birthplace of the Rock and Roll movement, I would have many multiple rock format stations to choose from. Unfortunately this isn’t the case. Finding FM96 was a bright spot. It’s always on in the car, or in the background at home. I, my wife and many of my friends and family listen to nearly nothing else. Even though, like all of you, I can’t win it all, I’m a FM96 freeloader. Listening last week, I heard of your plan to boycott any music from Texas during the ALDS and the Jays moved on. This past Friday, just before the first pitch between My beloved Indians and your Jays, I grudgingly said goodbye to all of my favorite radio personalities up north. As I’m a bit of a superstitious baseball fan and Cleveland is up 2-0, the only logical conclusion will be to continue my boycott. Hopefully the series ends soon, so I can be current with all the laws of Tazmania, get back to the School of Rock, keep up on my Bro news, kick it with Alan Cross and most of all, tune in for the Acoustic Brunch, because after that last game, my Saturday night certainly bled into my Sunday morning. No matter what happens, no hard feelings and I hope to hear all of you soon… Go Tribe!
Rusty, while I miss you, I’d be doing the same thing so smell ya after the ALCS.
On the mound tonight at the dome, The Stro Show!
Speaking of the Rogers Centre, a little update on the beer-can-tosser, from AM980:
Ken Pagan, Suspect Who Allegedly Threw Beer Can During Blue Jays-Orioles Game, Leaves Postmedia
The man who police say threw a can of beer on the field at the Rogers Centre during the AL wild-card game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles has left his job at Postmedia, a spokeswoman confirmed.
Pagan worked as a sports copy editor at the organization’s Hamilton office.
He was charged with one count of mischief on Oct. 6 after surrendering to police. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24.
The beer can barely missed Baltimore Orioles left fielder Hyun Soo Kim during the seventh inning of the wild-card game.
The incident garnered a lot of media attention and was widely shared on social media.
Speaking of our Opponents Tonight…
A legal battle began today in Toronto Court, that could see Cleveland’s full team name and logo banned in Ontario. Indigenous activist Douglas Cardinal began his arguements this morning, asking that Major League Baseball and their broadcasters stop using the team’s name and logo of Chief Wahoo, featuring the cartoon man with red skin and a feather in his headband.
A little more from AM980:
The Cleveland American Indian Movement has filed legal complaints over the name several times. In 1972, the group unsuccessfully sued Cleveland Baseball for libel and slander over the Indians name and filed a human rights complaint in 1999.
Most recently, the group created a petition to remove the name “Progressive” from Cleveland’s stadium.
“We firmly believe that attaching the Progressive name to institutionalized racism directly contradicts this proclaimed core value, and sends the insidious message that racism is somehow ‘progressive,’” read the petition, started in May.
The petition only garnered half of the 1,000 signatures it needed.
