I actually don’t know anything about St Patrick’s Day, the myth or the Legend.
I’m here for the BEER. And I say ANY day where you get to enjoy a GREAT beer (or 2) is a GREAT Day.
So what better place to celebrate the ‘luck o’ the Irish’ than Beertown London – the Leader in the Craft Beer dining revolution!
Last night, my Wife Mrs Baker and I were lucky enough to sample some of Beertown’s best offerings on-tap and from the Kitchen. Here’s where Baker’s Beertown Tour took us…
1st Tasting – Feature Cask – Iona Scottish Ale, brewed by Amsterdam Brewery (Toronto)
What the tasting notes say: This Scotch Ale is Fresh & Unfiltered, a rich caramel colour with dark, roasted malt flavours, nicely balanced by a touch of sweetness from Wildflower honey at the finish.
What Baker’s Tastebuds say: Bloody Good Beer. Smoother than expected. If you’ve never tried a Cask Ale before, this is the PERFECT pint to start with.
2nd Tasting – O’Hara’s Irish Stout, brewed by Carlow Brewing Co (Ireland)
What the tasting notes say: This Irish Dry Stout pours a deep black with a coffee-coloured head. Smokey aromas and hints of liquorice give it a much needed bitterness to balance the sweeter malt flavours.
What Baker’s Tastebuds say: This beer will bust ANY myth that Stouts are thick, heavy or a ‘meal in a glass’. You’ll be surprised how light it tastes, while getting the FULL flavor you expect from a well-crafted Irish Stout.
3rd Tasting – Renegade Series Imperial Stout, brewed by Cowbell Brewing Co (Blyth)
What the tasting notes say: Aroma of Chocolate off the nose develops into a rich, full-flavoured stout that’s creamy and smooth to the finish. 9.3% IBV, 24 IBU.
What Baker’s Tastebuds say: There’s a reason they call it ‘Renegade’. It’s a bold, beautiful Stout for the TRUE St Patty’s Day Beer Lover. Punched me in the mouth with flavor.. and I came back for more!
Beertown’s 18-Hr Smoked Brisket Platter – Yup, a melt-on-your-fork brisket, slow smoked in-house for 18 hours, comes with baked beans, slaw and fries. I drooled a little on it when it was placed before me.
Steak & Brie Sandwich – You need something to stand up to the rich flavourful Stouts, this is your Sandwich. Tender steak, creamy brie, bitter arugula, highlighted by garlic aoli and stacked high on a house-made bun.. YUM!
Beertown Sweet Board – Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding, Vanilla Ice Cream, Beertown Brownie, Raspberry white chocolate cheesecake.. all on 1 board. Food Coma. ‘Nuff said.
