I will never forget the first time I saw the Trailer Park Boys. I was working at the Elephant & Castle in the Galleria at the time. Early 2000s. Was channel surfing on a Sunday and came across this show that just seemed too good to be true.
The way it was filmed I actually thought it was real. I remember thinking to myself. No wonder they’re in the trailer park look at the choices they’re making. Then J-Roc made his appearance and I knew it was scripted.
That didn’t stop me though. The following sunday I was working the closing kitchen shift. I wanted to be home in time for TPB so I was rushing. For some reason I thought I was going to miss the show so I just rushed out of the restaurant after doing the worst closing job of all time. I didnt have a cell phone at the time but my roommate did. The manager at the time called him and let him have it since I wasn’t around. I didnt care though. I needed to catch my new favorite show.
I absolutely love The Trailer Park Boys. You cant get a better drunk crime fighting duo than Lahey and Randy. Them against Ricky, Julian and bubbles. You just can’t beat that. I had the honor of meeting John Dunsworth (Jim Lahey) when I was in school for radio. He was such a humble man. Very intelligent and a great guy to interview. Especially when you’re still very green under the interview collar. It was during Movember and he shaved my beard off during their show. Ill post the video below.
Johns daughter announced that her father had died at the age of 71 from a brief and unexpected illness. No other details as to what the illness is but Im sure that will come out soon enough. It’s a sad day for Canadian television personalities. He was one of the best. This drinky poo is for you Mr. Lahey.
