401 Blues

Monday, July 23, 2007

The OPP the other week released a list of the deadliest highways in Ontario.

The stretch between Pickering and Oshawa sees the most accidents in the province. You have a greater chance of being involved in a car accident if you are driving on Highway 401 between Whites Rd. in Pickering and Courtice Rd. east of Oshawa than any other location in the province.

July and August are the most dangerous times of the year for travellers.

Last year, there were around 5,500 crashes on Highway 401. 965 took place between Pickering and Oshawa.

------------

Seeing as I just drove from London to Montreal, I can attest to the fact that past Toronto, once the 401 shrinks to 2 lanes - it's a brutal drive. Sure, it's pretty once you're up in cottage country. But, people drive so fast and others so slow. That section of the highway, just isn't big enough for all the cars, buses, trucks, campers and moose anymore.

What bothers you about highway drivers?
