In Bloom to sell flowers??
Wednesday, November 01, 2006
Nirvana's music will soon begin showing up in commercials and television programs, thanks to Courtney Love's recent decision to sell a portion of the rights to the band's catalog. According to Forbes, four Nirvana songs will be heard in an upcoming episode of CSI: Miami for starters.
Nirvana's music should NOT be used in commercials or in tv shows. They are NOT some band who need that added exposure to further their career, pad their pockets, or keep their name alive in the current scene; like others who permit such usage of their material. Nirvana wasn't just your little ordinary band, they were exceptional. Kurt Cobain was worshipped, respected and valued as an artist. His death still touches many of us to this day. It's hard to say how he would feel about his music being used in this way because his career revolved around a constant struggle between being a rockstar and not being one. I am however doubtful he would approve. Isn't that the point really that the artist should say yay or nay? It's in times like these where his death continues to be more tragic, when these types of decisions are made by others for their own malicious purposes.
