Can we NOT run over roadkill ?

Every time I see road kill it makes me cringe. It's extremely sad to see a poor squirrel or bird lying dead in the street. The other day I was driving down Ridout and saw a dead squirrel, then drove a bit further ahead and saw ANOTHER dead squirrel. The difference between the two was that the one, which had sadly been lying there for awhile, was completely flattened into the ground.

My question is: Do we need to keep running over already dead animals so that there is blood and guts splattered all over the road?? Sorry to be so blunt but frankly it's sad enough to see an animal who has been hit by a car but it's another thing to see drivers being so careless as to continually drive over them.

I at least try to align my wheels or swerve slightly to avoid running over it's already dead body.
