Toast This!

Thursday, September 25, 2008

I'm a pretty easy going guy. Not a lot really bothers me. So I completely surprised myself when I lodged an official complaint towards a national sub chain.

There is a sub shop (I will not even mention the name) a block from my place. And me being the awful chef I am, frequent quite often. I should say, used to frequent quite often.

The service you get at this place is absolutely the worst service I've ever got anywhere. I'm not asking to be treated like a VIP or anything, but is it too hard to ask you not to roll your eyes when I walk in?? I'm not the hardest worker either, but I do my job and don't take my bad days out on the client. Most times when you walk into this place the staff are upset that they actually have to stop talking to their friends to make you a frickin' sandwich. I usually stop by about 7 o'clock, they close at 9 and they've got the chairs up on the tables ready to head home. The condiments are packed away, apparently in a locked safe, because they are never able to get them out when you request them. "Sorry they're put away for the night!"

About 3 weeks ago after one particularily frustrating visit, I noticed a Customer Feedback line. So I left an angry message, never expecting anything back, just to blow off some steam. The next day I get a call from sub HQ. They wanted to address my problems and let the management know about my issues. HQ actually called me twice to get my story. Each call lasting about 5 minutes, so 10 in total. In my last conversation with HQ they explained that they'd be sending me some gift certificates and wishing that I'd continue to visit this sub chain (Apparently things have slowed considerably since I'm no longer visiting). Well this week I get an envelope from this sub chain. I was hungry, so I eagerly ripped it open. I indeed got a gift certificate. FOR $5!!! That won't even cover the cost of one sub!

Now I didn't do this for the freebie...more to just blow off some steam and let them know of the awful customer service they were providing. Yes I thought the freebie was a nice touch, but how lame of them to give me a whole $5...I'll be getting my toasted subs elsewhere...
