Took my daughter Hannah on a little camping trip this weekend to Rondeau Provincial Park. Borrowed a tent from my sister and jumped in the truck on Saturday for a night under the stars. It didn't quite work out that way.

After rolling out the tent I realize that there are no poles included in the tent. So we truck back into Blenheim to purchase a brand new tent, all the way back to Rondeau to set up. Minutes after set up, the rain came...and that was just the beginning. Finally the rain let up and we went on a quick bike ride, grabbed a bite to eat and back to the site. I built a roaring fire. I tried to explain to Hannah that fire was a man's domain and that she should stay away. She didn't really comprehend that daddy is a pyro tech. Then the rain returned so we retreated to the tent to play endless rounds of Dora Uno. Our newly purchased tent wasn't really much match for the driving rain and I did think about returning home for a moment, but decided to tough it out. Our tent's zipper didn't want to stay closed, so that didn't help keep the water out and I ended up soaked. I also had the oppurtunity to show my daughter how to pee outside. I may not have the same plumbing as she does, but the concept is pretty basic. I think that was her favourite part.

All in all a great inagural Daddy/Daughter camping weekend. I even returned the tent on Sunday for a full refund! And I'm now looking at booking a weekend in August/September...if you're at the campground stop by and say hi...I'll be the one with the monstorous fire, and my daughter peeing in the bush.
