Here's what's going on between Chris' ears...

#33

Friday, September 12, 2008

The Montreal Canadiens announced yesterday that they'll retire Patrick Roy's #33 on November 22nd when they  play the Bruins. Get it? November 11th month? 22nd day?? 11+22=33. Damn the French are smart eh?

From Quebec he was the perfect fit for the Habs. A french goalie who led the Habs to two Stanley Cups before throwing a tantrum and being traded to the Avalanche. With the Avalanche he won a few more cups, but I'll remember him most from his fights with Chris Osgood of the Red Wings.

I'm not a Habs fan. Hate em actually. But Roy was good. The thing that bothers me is that I remember this guys entire career! When he broke in and won the cup in 86, to his Olympic performance to his final years in Colorado. His number being retired is making me feel really old! Guys like Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr are supposed to be the ones having their numbers raised to the rafters, not guys I grew up watching?! I'm old dammit. I'm going to be taking Carter to a game one day and point up to the rafters and say, "I remember him in 1993 Stanley Cup final!" He'll roll his eyes and make some comment about his dad being a geezer...
