It's weird to hear about Rockstars who have debilitating diseases. Why? Aren't Rockstars prone to the same afflictions as us? I know there's a case against Kurt, Janis, Jimmy, Bon and dozens of others who have had their life cut short due to drugs, alcohol, depression etc. But you rarely hear about the more common afflictions that affect us "everyday" people.
Mick Mars of Motley Crue. Great guitarist...has done his fair share of sex, drugs n' booze over his life...but none of that has killed him yet or kept him from touring and recording. What causes him so much pain?
Arthritis.
Yup, the same thing we all think we'll get by cracking our knuckles too much, or that our grandparents have. He has a intense form of it, and has had it since he was 19. If you've read "The Dirt", Mick tells you all about it, how it's affected him, how it's made him live in constant pain, twisted his body, made him shrink etc. It's weird though, because it just seems like an odd thing for a Rockstar to be suffering from. It really makes him human, and puts him on a level with his fans. The dude is miserable....really.
If you get a chance to see The Crue at Bayfest, watch poor lil Mick...he can still wail the guitar, but he hardly moves and looks like a little troll on the side of the stage... I know he has loads of cash, his fair share of women, has toured the world and become notoriously famous...but I still feel sorry for the guy. Read this and I think you will too.
