Okay so I'm a little late with my picks from last year. But in my defense, it wasn't easy to figure out the albums that were my fav's last year. Think of it as a Mark Cameron's favourites list.
Albums
1) Against Me - New Wave - Just a great record. Front to back it's filled with very solid punk rock. This is one you should have in your collection.
2) Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace - Many thought this album was too straight ahead and sounds like the Foos. My thought was "What is it supposed to sound like?" You want them to start rapping? Over all the most diverse Foo record yet and one of their best.
3) Kanye West - Graduation - I know, you're thinking what? I do listen to more than just rock (I know it’s a shock!). This record is just so good. It would have to be a hell of a rap album to get this high on my list and it is. Sure Kanye has an ego the size of NYC. But with a record this good...he can back it up.
4) Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank - A long record at over an hour, but well worth the listen. This one is not for everyone, but I loved it.
5) Bruce Springsteen - Magic - It's great to see The Boss back to his roots once again. Don't get me wrong I liked the acoustic and other stuff he's done in the past few years. But back with the E Street Band is when he is at his best. A very insightful and well written record.
6) The White Stripes - Icky Thump - I love that Jack White seems to find new guitar sounds and work them for everything they've got. It's an alternative record to say the least but one of the years best.
7) Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero - It sounds like the future and that's where it takes place. One of the best concept records since Green Day's American idiot.
8) Him - Venus Doom - Put aside the fact that Bam likes them. I only need to use his first name and if you don't know who I'm talking about then even better. This band is the real deal. A good friend told me he heard it described as "Love Metal". That's the best way to describe it.
9) Roger Clyne & The Peace Makers - No More Beautiful World - Who? Remember a band called The Refreshments. Roger Clyne was the front man of that band. This is his "new' band. They've actually been together quite a while now. If you liked The Refreshments....you'll like Roger Clyne.
10) Saul Williams - The Inevitable Rise And Fall Of Niggy Tardust - One of the best MC's out there. He shows his range with this record. Trent Reznor lends a hand and produces the record. Not for the average listener but a great record.
Honourable mentions - Queens Of The Stone Age - Era Vulgaris, Biffy Clyro - Puzzle, Saint Alvia Cartel - Saint Alvia Cartel, The Night Watchman - One Man Revolution
