Sean Avery - Some Things Never Change

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

I've paid attention to Sean Avery's NHL career. Not because I'm a fan of his, actually quite the opposite actually. Sean played part of His OHL career in the town where I grew up. We went to the same high school and even had a few friends in common. I must say I never really cared for the guy. Really not too many people in our school did. Even most of his teammates at the time had a hard time getting along with him. His attitude was always a question. He eventually started enough trouble in the dressing room that they were forced to move him to another team. I’m pretty sure there was no big going away party when he left town. Sean worked very hard to make it into the NHL and even has a Stanley Cup ring from his days in Detroit. He’s actually a good hockey player when he decides to play the game. But as I watch him with the shenanigans with the arm and stick waiving in front of Martin Brodeur I wonder if he’ll ever grow up. It doesn’t seem that far removed from the crap he used to pull when he was in high school and playing in the OHL. Hopefully he learns from this, but I don’t think that he will. I’m also sure that Sean doesn’t care what I think and if you mentioned my name to him he’d have no cue who I was. But I think I'm more than okay with saying that I would never consider him a friend.

Sorry I just want to add to this. I just found this Quote from Don Cherry and think it's rather fitting

Outspoken television personality Don Cherry disagreed.

"I've known this kid since he was about 16 years old," Cherry told Toronto radio station The FAN 590.  "Once a jerk, always a jerk. You can't blame the referee, because . he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Could you believe what you were seeing? I've never seen anything like that and I've been in every league that's ever existed."
