Taz wants landlords to be more responsible

Ontario Law states that Landlords are required to provide working smoke detectors on every level of their dwelling

A fire here in London on Grey St sent a family of five running from their apartment into the freezing cold....Two cats also died in the fire, and the family lost most of their possessions.

Guess what???? There were no working smoke alarms inside. Their landlord has been given 3 tickets for not having the working alarms in place&..The tickets are each for only $235 &.which seems like a slap on the wrist when you consider that if the fire had happened while the family was sleeping they could all be dead.

Landlords who dont provide working smoke detectors should be responsible for costs to replace their tennants belongings. This family has lost everything including their pets and their home& I think that would make Landlords realize that a $25 smoke detector is a good investment.
