Burning CDs and taping tv shows could theoretically get you charged soon. They are looking at putting safeguards in place for major music, film, multi media and artists for unpaid use of their material. The government needs to step in and make exemptions for personal usage of copyrighted material& That means burning CDs and taping shows to watch later could be illegal.



Remember every time you have purchased a blank CD, Cassette Tape(for the older crowd) part of the profits goes towards the record labels to offset any loss. This has been going on for years. As it stands without the new changes burning a cd or taping a tv show is looked at in the eyes of the law like going to the library and photocopying a page from a book. Not illegal at all.



Do you think personal usage should be lumped into with the rest? Do you think it should be legal or illegal? Do you think the artist are suffering?... BTW&The Barenaked Ladies and Broken Social Scene, have also come out against those safeguards, arguing they actually stifle creativity.



I think we should be able to burn cds and tape shows for personal use.
