It's wrong to deface a flag of your nation. No one should have signed it.

Ok, saying that he should honour those who fought and died for us is all well and good, I don't disagree with that at all. Having said that, what do you think they fought and died for us for? To preserve our rights as human beings INCLUDING the right to make our own decisions. This issue has become so distorted, especially with the fact that he happens to be from Quebec. Come on! There is no way him being kicked off the team for refusing to sign a flag is legal and I would be VERY surprised

Here's a question, what are the troops supposed to do with a flag signed by a bunch of kids when they meet resistance...throw it at them?? Of course Canada supports our troops, all of them have families here that love them and miss them, but lets not forget that Canada is responsible for sending them to a war that had nothing to do with us. Instead of sending memorabilia to remind them of all the things they are missing, send them plane tickets so they can come home.

I personally don't see the relationship between war and hockey that a player on a hockey team can be removed from the roster just because he does not support the war.
Depending on the flag (I'm going to make the assumption that it's the Canadian flag) I would also have a problem signing. Not simply because it's a war I don't believe in (because I fully believe our soldiers deserve our support -- it is, afterall, not their war -- but rather, I have a problem with the disrespect that shows our f

I don't think the poor boy needed to be kicked off the team for a mistake for thinking someone else signing or for out right not sighning the flag. To be legitamitly kicked off the team it should have been for unsportsman like conduct!!! The French think they are so patriatic yet they don't want to be part of Canada that is just plain hypocrisy.

Rememberance Day was but a month ago and already you're forgotten. You know, that is the day in which we honour all of those who fought and died for our freedom. By kicking the hockey player off the team for exercising his freedoms as a Canadian, it is a slap in the face to all of those who died for us. You might as well go piss on their graves. I can picture you speaking to one of our Veterans now, "Thanks for fighting for our freedoms, but you know what? I don't really c

I agree with him getting kicked off. He dosen't have to support the war just our troops. Our troops today who continue to fight for our Country deserve the respect and support just as much as our troops did back in WW1 and WW2. Yeah, he doesn't need to play hockey. As for the coach, KUDOS for him for following through with what he said he would do. Too many people these days crumble. Way to go Coach!

Part of what the troops in Afghanistan and around the world are fighting for is freedom from oppression, and this sounds like oppression. People have the right to believe what they want, the hockey player should not be kicked off the team. Fridays are supposed to be support your troops day by wearing red, does that mean someone can get fired for not wearing red. It all sounds very ridiculous.

Do we live in Canada? or Nazi Germany....Freedom of expression, why force someone to do or say something they don't belive in?
He obviousily feels strongly against Canada being in Afghanistan as do alot of Canadians. His opinion is just that and he does not deserve to be punished for having different beliefs then the coach.
Besides it is time to bring our troops home, Afghanistan is a mess...we only need to look at recent history to see that foreign occupiers have never been successful. i.

I think the player should of got kicked off. just because he is most likely one of those quebecers that doesnt want to be part of Canada doesnt give him the right to disrespect our troops in Afganistan.

That's ludicrous!
There should be absolutely no punishment for not signing something you don't want to sign. How would you feel if you were fired because you didn't sign a birthday card for someone you hate, someone you just don't get along with or someone who is a complete jerk every chance they get?
