There was a woman today who went on strike from her parenting job. Roxanne, who pitched a tent in front of her house, has refused to cook and clean until her kids ages 8, 10 and 14 create a plan on how they are going to contribute and come up with a solution to fix the situation in the home. She says since the summer they havent helped out around the house, nor do they clean their rooms. Wow, so uncommon with kids...

Now lets take a look at this. Parenting is a permanent responsibility until they are at least 18 years old. After that, they are adults and I am not saying abandon them at 18 but you are obligated, people!! If you need assistance in parenting there are parenting groups and courses out there on effective parenting as well as numerous books.



Children will behave how they are allowed to behave. If you are not setting and maintaining boundaries and limits then guess what? They WILL push and test, and hell, even piss you off probably. Parenting is the most difficult job in the world. This woman is bailing out of her duties. Her kids poor behaviour is a reflection on her parenting skills. Kids dont all of a sudden misbehave for no apparent reason. They were obviously trained and affirmed that their unacceptable behaviour was acceptable. Its like those parents that complain my kids are fat and they only eat junk food..wa wa Who the hell is buying the junk food to get in the cupboards? The kids? People are so quick to just point and blame their situation on other people for their problems. These are the same people that say my kid watches TV and plays video games all day and they wont do their homework. Lay the boundaries out. Let them know that they need to do whatever chores they need to do. You can even use the tried and true catchy line Because I said so to most chores that need to be done. When my mother said do the dishes you did the dishes.



If their rooms are messy, they need to be cleaned before they play video games. Not rocket science. Hell - just watch the super nanny and you could learn a lot of great skills. Remember who the adult/parent is in the relationship. STOP being irresponsible and BE responsible and get back in your home and be an active parent. Nowadays kids need parents more than ever to guide them through their decision making process to becoming adults that are productive in society. This antic just shows the kids that you can bail when the going gets tough. Nice job.



I know how stressful it can be going to school, working fulltime and raising a family. Everyone has a story. I havent walked a day in Roxannes shoes and believe that her situation is proof that parents have more expectations on them today with work and housework and child rearing. The saying It takes a village to raise a child comes to mind. As a society we need to come together and support our parents in this thankless job. Our schools, neighbours, families all have to work together to assist in the most important job in the world. Creating our future generation. Good luck Roxanne.
