We just came back from Long Point and there are hundreds of them there! Every year my family and I go up to the Point and one of the fun things we do is catching 10-20 fire flies and put them in a bug catcher so they can use them as a night light when they sleep. We let them go the next day of course! Head up there some time, you will be sure to see a few!

Sarah,
I saw some down at Rondeau on the weekend. But then there were bats. And then there were no fireflies.
So maybe they're gone now...

I went for a bike ride with my kids the other evening and we stopped at the park on Thornwood Ave. (just of Wonderland south of Oxford). We walked in the wooded area behind the park and there were tons of fireflies. Also, there are some in the woods behind our house. If you park at Clara Brenton Public School (on St. Croix Ave. off Guildwood near Oakridge S.S.) and go into the woods behind the school, you can find them in there too! There are two places you can try! Good luck.

Here at work we engineer all sorts of cells and organisms to express the firefly gene for reasons of scientific interest.
Maybe you want a custom order - glowing baby perhaps? ;)

I have to agree with you Sarah. When I lived in London, I didn't see a single firefly, but now I must tell you, I was VERY excited because I have so many in my back yard since I moved just west of London to Delaware....OK, west of Lambeth, which is actually now London. blah blah blah!!! But, I have Fireflys and my kids LOVE them!! You'll have to come check them out. Maybe I can get a pic & send it!

Sarah. It's a shame you can't find any fireflies in London. We have thousands of them here in Erie, PA. Hope you can find some where you are. If not feel free to come visit.

It has somthing to do with the cities to much light to actually seem them flickering, just had out into the country. I had never seen one my entire life but a while back i went to a Suprise birthday party out near harmony and i actually stopped the car to see them flickering away cause i thought i was loosing it. So if you are that keen to see it take a romantic road trip with the hubby one night out in the country

Fireflies are a unique and interesting insects. They give off this light
because of certain chemicles inside them that combine. When these
chemicals combine they produce photons- or light energy. On a clear night with no light polution ,this green light can be seen for sometimes miles away. This phenomenon is found in certain sea creatures as well. A lot of animals that live where there is no sunlight
or come out at night produce this "bioluminescence" (light from living things). Only cert

We do have fireflies!!! I live downtownish in London (Oxford/Adelaide area) and I see them all the time! Over the last few weeks I've seen a bunch outside in the evenings. I used to see them alllll the time growing up (I lived in the Westmount area of London) and I hadn't seen any in a long time, but this summer I've seen tons! So head over to this area one night in the evening, you may see some! You kind of have to be near bushes, so just kind of wander around people's houses...you should b

Yes Sarah, there are fireflies in London.
I've seen them -- as recently as last week. They were blinking in and out by the hedges in my backyard. These little iridescent insects should no be confused with firebugs -- I've heard we also have those in London and though I've never seen any I'm sure the little bastards are responsible for some of the fires that occur around town from time to time.

I too had been thinking the same thing. Where are the fireflies I remember as a kid? Until a few weekends ago when I was on a boat the Saturday night of Pottahawk. All the light we had was the moon, stars, & fireflies. They were amazing! I also know that if you go to the Turkey Point beach later at night you can find them around there too. I'm not too sure about the cities though, as I have never seen them there. Good luck finding them.
Always a fan of you three, keep up the good work
