Is Slayer killing heavy metal?

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

This morning during Tazmania I mentioned that the band SLAYER had totaly sold out, after agreeing to only sell their new EP at a U.S. chain of stores called "Hot Topic". I guess things looked a little different in Mikemania:

Hey Taz

Regarding calling Slayer sellouts

in your latest Tazmania, I felt compelled to write in and disagree.

Though I do agree that releasing an EP to only one retail outlet is a kinda crappy thing to do to your fans, I think that we can let a band who hasn't sold out 'musicly' in over 23 years have a little slack in that department. Selling out would be hiring Bob Rock to produck you, cutting all your hair off and getting John Cougar doo's, and writing mainstream dribble like 'Sad but True' and 'Sandman' while fighting internet downloading. THAT IS SELLING OUT!!

and since Slayer has NEVER sold out musicly, let them sell their records wherever the F&*% they want, they deserve it. and besides, it's just an EP, not like it's full album release; an EP IS a specialty album, so let it be sold in a specialty store!

Thanks for coming to Mikemania!
