There are just three of the guitars in the whole world. What makes the guitar interesting is that you don’t pluck it, when you turn it on, it just makes a note. You slide your fingers on the frets to change the notes, but the sound is sustained.
The guitar was built by a guy in Toronto named Michael Brook. he was inspired after hearing a band use an ebow on their guitar and wanted that same sustained, ethereal sound. He made one for himself, one for Daniel Lanois, and U2’s the Edge.
The guitar makes a very unique sound and is of course extremely rare. But you are likely familiar with the sound, as it is featured prominently on the U2 song, “With Or Without You” from 1987’s Joshua Tree album.
